Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT)
Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT) is a treatment that combines a light source and a sensitizing agent (a cream that is activated by light) to destroy cancerous and pre-cancerous cells. PDT works because the photosensitizing agent collects more readily in the damaged cells than in normals cells. When the agent is exposed to light, it reacts with oxygen to create energy that destroys the cancerous cell.
PDT is used to destroy pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions, reduce the redness of rosacea and clear acne lesions. In Dermatology, PDT is also successfully used as a skin rejuvenation treatment.
PDT usually results in improvement in skin tone and texture because it targets sun damage in the skin which is responsible for a lot of the signs of aging. It stimulates the natural wound repair process of your skin, which includes new collagen formation for younger, healthier and brighter skin.
We offer PDF in our office both as a treatment for sun damage and well as part of a treatment package to rejuvenate and refresh aging skin.
