Dermal fillers and other injectables have been a part of medicine for quite a few years now. The popularity of these non-surgical solutions is widely known – so widely known that it may seem like you’re the only one not on the bandwagon at the moment. Obviously, that’s not true. We continually meet patients who are new to the injectable trend. Many of them report that they hesitated for months because they had questions that they simply didn’t ask. If you have questions about dermal fillers and other injectables, we encourage you to contact our office for a personal consultation. In the meantime, we’ll answer a few common questions here.
Exactly what is a dermal filler?
A dermal filler is a product that smooths lines and creases by adding volume. There are various fillers on the market these days, each of which may restore volume with a unique ingredient. The most common ingredient found in dermal fillers is hyaluronic acid. This is the base ingredient for the Restylane® products that we use when treating facial aging. The introduction of hyaluronic acid into subdermal tissue invites water molecules to plump the skin. Because hyaluronic acid particles bind to water molecules, the skin stays smooth for months at a time. We also use Radiesse®, a filler that is made with micronized granules of calcium hydroxyapatite.
Will I look fake if I get dermal fillers?
It’s unfortunate that such as thing as “bad Botox” and poorly-done dermal fillers exists. The fact is, there are many high-profile people who have made it seem as though dermal fillers will augment areas of the face too much. This isn’t the norm. Let’s say you would like to correct the natural deflation of your lips by enhancing them with dermal fillers. When you visit our office, this process can restore just the right amount of fullness to give more definition to your lip line and more symmetry to your mouth. There is no need for dermal filler treatment to look “done.”
How much does it cost to get dermal fillers?
Many patients are surprised at just how affordable dermal filler treatment is. The overall cost is determined by the amount of filler that is used to achieve your unique goals. Generally, one to two syringes is all that is needed to reduce lines and wrinkles or enhance the lips. Cheek augmentation may require slightly more, but this varies on a case by case basis.
